Fort Rotterdam is a fortress of Gowa Kingdom Tallo. The location of the fort was located on the edge of the west coast of Makassar, South Sulawesi.

The fort was built in 1545 by the 9th King of Gowa who named I manrigau Daeng Bonto Karaeng Lakiung Tumapa'risi'kallona. Initially the fort was made of clay, but in the reign of King of Gowa to the 14th Sultan Alauddin construction of the fort was changed to rock rock originating form karst mountains in the Maros region. fort rotterdam is shaped lika a Turtle who wanted to crawl into the ocean. In terms of shape is very clear philosophy of the Kingdom of Gowa, that turtles can live on land and at sea. So even with the kingdom of Gowa who triumphed on land and at sea.

The original name of this fort is Fort Ujung Pandang, commonly also Gowa-Makassar people call this castle known as Castle Panyyua which is the headquarters of Gowa Kingdom frog army. Kingdom of Gowa Tallo Bungayya finally signed an agreement in which one of the article requires that the Kingdom of Gowa to submit this to the Dutch fort. When the Dutch occupied the fort, the name was changed to Fort Rotterdam. Comelis Speelman deliberately chose the name Fort Rotterdam in memory of his homeland in the Nehterlands. The fort was later used by the Dutch as a central storage of spices in eastern Indonesia.
